Made of handmade cotton paper died black and embossed with hebrew letters, it spells out the Hebrew Kaddish prayer on the wall. The prayer is said during the mourning of a loved one and the sabbath. The black pieces of paper are a representation of the Jewish funeral rite of K'riah. This rite consists of tearing a visible portion of clothing. In may communities, the mourners wear a black ribbon that is cut in the same manner as in K'riah.
